Spring is here!!!

Spring is here and with it comes warm weather.  Austin and Kaleb have had so much fun playing outside these past few weeks.  They love to go out on our deck and play with their toys.  We are so excited for the warm months and the carefree days of summer.

Swimming Lessons

We signed Austin up for swimming lessons at BYU-Idaho this spring.  It was a two week class and the moms got in the water with their kids.  Austin loved it!!! For the kid who is scared of EVERYTING, he sure does love the water.  He was fearless. He would jump off the side of the pool, put his face in the water, and float on his back.  He loved it.  By the end of the class Austin would jump off the side of the pool in the deep end without me catching him (clinging tightly to a couple of noodles, of course).  He had so much fun, and I loved the one-on-one bonding time.

Austin’s 4th Birthday

We didn’t do a birthday party for Austin this year (frankly I was a little partied out from Kaleb’s birthday) but we tried to make his special day extra special nonetheless.  We started out with Mickey Mouse pancakes for breakfast.  Austin thought these were super cool.

The minute Austin was done eating he said, “Now I need a present”.  So we gave him his presents.

Later that day we went to Target to let Austin pick out a present.  He chose a baseball glove and ball.  Then we took him to Texas Roadhouse for dinner where the waitress brought him his own chocolate sunday.  It was a fun family birthday.  Hopefully Austin felt like it was his own special day.

Easter Bummer!

Our traditional Easter festivities were a little bit of a bummer this year.  First, Austin had the flu.  We spent five days trying to convince the feverish child that butterflies were not attacking him (he is just like his dad when he gets a fever…hallucinatory!)  He was super miserable and just laid around complaining that his head hurt.  Poor guy.  Second, we woke up Saturday morning (the morning of the city Easter Egg Hunt) to find two inches of snow on the ground.  Spring weather in Rexburg is very unpredictable.  So we decided to make our own fun and color eggs instead.

Austin carried these colored eggs around with him for about a week.  Finally I said enough is enough and I made egg salad sandwiches out of them.  For days after Austin kept asking, “Where did my eggs go?”

Austin’s First Pet

I took Austin to a little Easter party in town a few days ago and he won a fish.  He was so excited.  He kept saying, “I love fish! The fish is so beautiful!”  We went to the store and bought some fish food and put our new friend in a mason jar.  Austin carried that fish around with him wherever he went.  It was so cute.  Goldfish don’t have a reputation for living long healthy lives so I was worried about how this was all going to end.  Well, that little fish lasted a whole 24 hours at our house and then went to fishy heaven.  Vance and I decided that this was the perfect time to teach Austin about death and heaven.

Austin did not take it well.  I know is seems cruel to take pictures of your kid when he is crying but I thought it was so sweet that Austin was so upset about his fish being gone.  He kept saying, “no, don’t take pictures, mom”.
