So Vance and I have been itching to get out of town the last little while. We wanted to do something fun just the two of us (no kids allowed). We thought of going somewhere for our anniversary but that’s not till June and we didn’t want to wait that long. So we decided to celebrate our anniversary early. We called Grandma Gardner and set up a weekend to drop our kids off (we had never left them overnight before). We got a hotel in Salt Lake and decided to spend the weekend at Lagoon.
Without kids, we were able to ride as many roller coasters we wanted.
We finally saw the wisdom in bringing along little ones. By riding the mellow rides in between the crazy rides, it helps keeps the nausea and head spinning at bay. As it was, we were ready to go back to the hotel for a nap by 3:00. However, I really wanted to ride one last ride called The Samari. Vance said he would throw up if he went on one more ride. Vance hasn’t thrown up since he was 5 years old but I accepted his excuse knowing full well that he was just wussing out! So I went on the ride by myself (and felt like a total loser standing in line with nobody to talk to).
It was lots of fun, but I was definitely ready to go after that one.
As luck would have it, the Spurs were playing the Jazz in a playoff game the weekend we were in Salt Lake (we found out the day before we left). The Spurs are Vance’s favorite NBA team, he practically worships Coach Papovich and the gang. It is at the top of Vance’s bucket list to see the Spur’s play. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Vance bought the cheapest seats available.
We got to the game an hour early to see the team warm up. There were a few Spur’s fans there, but not many.
Manu Ginobili is Vance’s favorite player in the NBA, and it just so happened that he was warming up when we got there. I have never seen Vance so excited.
What an epic shot of Vance with his NBA idol making a jump shot in the background.
After his warm up, Manu came over to the stands to sign autographs and take pictures with the fans.
Vance wasn’t pushy enough to get an autograph so we settled for this picture instead.
Now, if it looks like we were really high up, it’s because we are. We were on the last row of the upper bowl. After we hiked all those stairs we realized why the tickets were so cheap. We had fun anyway. The Spurs beat the Jazz and we were pretty excited. We had to contain our excitement amid all the hostile Jazz fans though. We love the Spurs but we weren’t willing to get beat up for them.
It was a really fun and relaxing weekend, but we certainly missed our boys. However, they were having so much fun with Grandma and Grandpa, they didn’t even know we were gone.
